Prayer to Saint Philip Neri for the Summorum Pontificum Pilgrimage

Prayer composed in 2014 by Fr. Claude Barthe

Good Saint Philip Neri, who didst found the Confraternity of the Most Holy Trinity for the welcome and help of pilgrims to Rome, we place ourselves under thy kind protection.

Assist our pilgrimage in the City that is our Mother and our Mistress. Unite thy prayer to the prayers we send up to the Prince of the Apostles, to whose Tomb we are going. Place us under the mantle of the Blessed Virgin Mary, Salvation of the Roman people. Obtain for us mercy and forgiveness of our sins from Jesus Christ Our Lord, the Divine Spouse of the Church which He established upon Peter. Present to Him, through the hands of the Virgin Mary, our efforts, our labours, our sorrows, and our sacrifices for the celebration of the divine worship.

We beg thee to enlighten our faith, which is exposed to the darkness of the modern world, with thy smile and thy sense of humour.

Lastly we pray thee, good Saint Philip, to support our efforts to make the holy Roman liturgy just as you practised it shine in our parishes, in our nations, and in the whole world for the greater glory of God and for the conversion, consolation, and salvation of innumerable souls.

Holy Year of Mercy
The people of Summorum Pontificum in Norcia and Rome
With The Most Reverend Alexander K. Sample, Abp. of Portland
October 27-30, 2016

« The Cœtus Internationalis Summorum Pontificum Roman pilgrimage keeps the ancient Roman liturgy alive in the Church. »
2015 message from Pope Francis

On this Feast of the Immaculate Conception, which ushers in the Jubilee Year, the Cœtus Internationalis Summorum Pontificum (CISP) gladly confirms the dates and general organization of the fifth Summorum Pontificum pilgrimage at the tombs of the Holy Apostles.

The pilgrimage will get on its way on Thursday 27 October at about 3pm with a bus ride from Rome to Norcia, the birthplace of Saint Benedict. In Norcia the pilgrims will be greeted by the Benedictine monks there as well as by Archbishop Alexander K. Sample of Portland, Oregon, who will serve as their guide throughout the pilgrimage.

On Friday 28 October morning, Abp. Sample will celebrate Mass in the Basilica of Norcia.

That Friday evening the pilgrims will have returned to Rome and are invited to join in a torch-lit procession to celebrate the tenth anniversary of the Institute of the Good Shepherd.

On Saturday 29 October, the people of Summorum Pontificum will follow in His Excellency’s footsteps across the threshold of the Holy Door and attend the pontifical Mass celebrated at noon in Saint Peter’s Basilica (name of celebrant to be announced).

Lastly, on Sunday 30 October, Archbishop Sample will bring this fifth international pilgrimage to a close by celebrating the Feast of Christ the King in Santa Trinità dei Pellegrini Church.

About the daytrip to Norcia:
The logistics of that exceptional day in Saint Benedict’s birthplace has been entrusted to the Via Sacra agency.

Holy Mass with Cardinal Pell for Juventutem’s anniversary!

The International Juventutem Federation is pleased to announce that His Eminence George Cardinal Pell, Prefect of the Secretariat for Economy, has kindly accepted our invitation to be the Celebrant at a Pontifical Solemn High Mass according to the Missal of St John XXIII on Friday 24 October 2014, 6:30pm, at Santissima Trinità dei Pellegrini, Parish Church of the Priestly Fraternity of St Peter in Rome, Italy. The Holy Sacrifice will be offered in thanksgiving for the tenth anniversary of Juventutem, the worldwide youth movement fostering the sanctification of the young through the Roman traditions of Holy Mother Church. We are grateful to His Eminence who generously presided at Solemn Pontifical Vespers organised by Juventutem during World Youth Days in the past, first in Düsseldorf on 17 August 2005, and again in Sydney on 16 July 2008.

After Vespers in Düsseldorf, Cardinal Pell gave the following encouragements to the young WYD pilgrims of Juventutem: “I am happy to be here because the old Latin rite is one of the most beautiful things in the entire Western civilization. And I am very glad that this ancient rite has its place in the Church today. I am happy because this rite helps you to love God and to love one another. In this ancient rite we always see that our prayer is an act of worship. It is impossible to see a celebration like these Vespers as something horizontal. We have one Church only, whose Head is the Successor of Peter, with the Bishops as successors of the Apostles, and this unity is very important for the life of the Church” (translated from the original French).

Members and supporters of Juventutem are cordially invited to make arrangements to be in Rome and attend the Mass, which will be preceded by other Juventutem activities (full schedule to be advertised soon). All pilgrims in Rome are naturally invited as well, regardless of their involvement with Juventutem. The event will be part of the Populus Summorum Pontificum Pilgrimage 2014. The following day, on Saturday 25 October, His Eminence Raymond Leo Cardinal Burke, Prefect of the Supreme Tribunal of the Apostolic Signatura, will celebrate a Solemn Pontifical High Mass according to the Extraordinary Form of the Roman Rite in Saint Peter’s Basilica, at 12:00 noon.

Signed: International Juventutem Federation, on 27 May 2014.
