Towards #sumpont2017

Rome, 27 November 2016
First Sunday of Advent

From the 14 till the 17 September 2017
all are invited to Rome to celebrate
10 years of Motu proprio “Summorum Pontificum”.

May the traditional Mass flourish in the Church!

This aspiration, formulated by Msgr Sample, Archbishop of Portland, at the end of the last pilgrimage Populus Summorum Pontificum that took place between 27 and 30 October 2016, may reach its best materialisation next year, precisely on 14 September 2017, when the people of Summorum Pontificum shall meet ad Petri Sedem to celebrate the tenth anniversary of the coming in force of the Motu proprio of Pope Benedict XVI.

Truly, the anniversary of the act by which Pope Benedict lifted the constraints that weighed on the use of the Missal of Pope John XXIII is also of all priests, religious and faithful who, since that date, have nourished, enriched and renewed their faith at the fount of that which since then has been termed the extraordinary form of the Roman Rite.

For this reason, the Coetus Internationalis Summorum Pontificum has decided, after having heard the Pontifical Commission Ecclesia Dei, to anticipate – exceptionally – the date of its pilgrimage for 2017, which shall take place from Thursday 14 to Sunday 17 September 2017.

The Pilgrimage commences with the Fifth Congress on the Motu Proprio Summorum Pontificum organized by the association Giovani e Tradizione and by Amicizia Sacerdotale Summorum Pontificum on 14 September 2017. It will continue on the 15, 16 and 17 of September 2017, like in every year since its foundation in 2012. The apex of the pilgrimage shall be the solemn procession that shall take the pilgrims through the streets of Rome towards the Basilica of Saint Peter, where Pontifical Holy Mass shall be celebrated on Saturday 16 September 2017.
